Ung Nordisk Musik 2022- co·structing

Ung Nordisk Musik (UNM) is an annual festival presenting the youngest generation of Nordic composers and sound artists. In addition to showcasing their works, the festival offers the artists the opportunity to share experiences and network across borders.

The UNM Reykjavík 2022 festival’s theme is co·structing. The focus of the festival is to think about and act on the many ways that collaborations unfold within the young new music community, ranging from creative endeavours to organisational ones and beyond. A part of this focus is an all-new residency programme happening on March 5 – 13. At this residency, new works will be created for premiere at the festival on August 15 – 21. This year, Iceland will act as UNM host for the 10th time in 45 years after joining the UNM organization in 1974 and hosting its first festival in 1977. UNM has been the shared effort of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland since this time, and is hosted in turn in these countries. This time around, we opened our selection process to active participants from the Baltic countries for the first time, thus hoping to start a new chapter in the history of UNM like the one started by our compatriots in the 1970s.
